Original Music, Sound Design and Field Recordings
This is the third film (also see Tahini and Tears and The Bench ) John has scored for director Shashwati Talukdar; a feature documentary telling the story of the very talented and industrious but, sadly, criminally type-cast and marginalized Chara Tribe in Gujarat, India.
Over a two week period in Northwestern India in August 2008, John lived, worked, collaborated and jammed musically with a varied group of Gujarati and Rajasthani folk and classical musicians to begin recording and arranging the musical building blocks of the score. These field and studio recordings will then be enhanced and reconfigured with various western musical instruments and sounds in his studio in New York City creating an Eastern-Western hybrid score for the rough and gritty but oddly inviting streets the Chara call home.
